Josiah Asher

Home State: Missouri
Employer: Spirit Airlines
Job Title: Flight Attendant

What advice would you give future students?
Be prepared to have a fun time, but study hard! Develop a good balance of study time and relaxation. Enjoy your days off and go enjoy all Portland and Vancouver have to offer, but tend to your homework and training at the same time. If you can do that, your experience will be great!

What was your favorite memory from attending International Air and Hospitality Academy?
My favorite memory from my time at IAHA was experiencing all the diversity of the students and faculty. No one was from the same place and everyone came from all sorts of different backgrounds and cultures. It truly was an eye opening and fun experience.

Is there anything you would like to add about your training?
The training I received at IAHA prepared me SO WELL for my current job as a Flight Attendant. I am very grateful for all the hard work of my instructor, Laura Bauman, and that of career services. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

Anthony Woodson

Home State: Ohio
Employer: Compass Airlines
Job Title: Flight Attendant

What advice would you give future students?
Trust the process. It may seem like it’s a lot of work, but it’s beneficial. Attending IAHA made my ground training experience very easy. There was a lot of information that I already knew going into the training with Compass and it helped me all the way through to the end. Study! Study! Study! Stay focused and keep your eye on the prize.

What was your favorite memory from attending international air and hospitality academy?
I remember my class had the biggest and most unique personalities. We all loved each other and supported one another while attending IAHA. The staff was also amazing and I will never forget all the support my instructor and our career services staff gave us. They really helped me build my confidence and knowledge to be fully prepared for the industry.

What is your favorite thing about your new job?
My favorite thing about my job is the fact that I am able to impact so many lives from all over the United States. I love making people smile every day!

Malaika

Malaika graduated from our Airline/Travel Specialist program in February of 2016. Before she was even finished with her training, she was hired by SkyWest Airlines as a Flight Attendant during one of our campus recruiting events.

She recently came by the Academy to talk to students about her journey and shared some information about the perks of being a flight attendant.

Where are you currently working?
I work for SkyWest Airlines as a flight attendant.

Favorite part of the job?
I love being able to travel on my days off. I am currently planning a trip out of the country but do not know where, yet. Next week I have four days off so I am going to Hawaii.

In what kinds of aircraft do you work?
I fly in several different kinds: Canadair Regional Jet 200, 700 and 900. I also work aboard the ERJ 175. My favorite is the Canadair 200 because I am the only flight attendant on board and am completely in control. It is like having my own office. I love it.

Favorite thing about attending IAHA?
Making new friends and getting to know people. I keep in touch with all my class mates and am already planning a five year reunion.

What was your secret to success while attending IAHA?
Stay focused and stay encouraged. Aim high, dream high, fly high!
